Outing of the moment - Grandeur nature
La Villette park
From July 23 to August 22, 2020, La Villette and its traditional open-air cinema returns timidly despite the health crisis. Rendezvous at dusk in the Parc de la Villette for this not-to-be-missed outing on the theme of "Grandeur nature". This year, perhaps more than any other, we're craving wide open spaces, fresh air and breathtaking panoramas.
the history minute
Did you know? La Villette was originally a huge animal market, designed by Haussmann, Prefect of the Seine, in 1858. Then, in 1974, after many golden years, the market closed its doors and was replaced by Rungis.
In 1982, an international competition was held to build the park as we know it today. Year after year, the park has grown: the Zenith in 84, the Grande Halle in 85, the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in 86 and finally, the Parc de la Villette in 87.
Today, La Villette offers all kinds of cultural activities: dance, cabaret, cinema, science or major exhibitions... Their watchword? Culture for all!
Open-air cinema
The largest open-air cinema in Paris: a dream come true! A 600m² inflatable screen to experience or relive all the emotions of the cinema: suspense, humor, thrills and love. La Villette will have you on the edge of your seat this summer. A return to nature, an escape or a wild utopia, films that will make you rediscover nature in a different way. We love the chance to escape into your own thoughts and travel for an evening!
In all, La Villette is offering 25 evenings of "life-size" cinema. Between Peter Jackson, Alfred Hitchcock and Terrence Malick, who will make you dream?
This weekend, we're sure to be tempted by Ridley Scott's Thelma and Louise, to play with them as impromptu Friday night rebels. But we're also hesitating with Sunday night's film, Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest, to brush up on our classics. If you're busy this weekend, don't worry, there are plenty of films to look forward to over the next few days.
La Villette has thought of everything! Spaces are marked out on the ground, just like a drive-in. Yes, you can bring your deckchair, your plaid and your picnic for a memorable evening. But don't forget to reserve your place on the site beforehand.
The little plus?
Until September 20, the canal will be decked out in lights for the Eté du Canal. In addition to open-air cinema, you can take part in a variety of activities, including concerts on the water, gourmet cruises and water parks!
The Poinçon 22 team recommends late-day cruises to discover the Canal de l'Ourcq and its history. A relaxing and cultural cruise, the perfect moment before heading off to the park for an outdoor painting, Grandeur Nature!
