Reconnect with Culture
It's been a long time since we've been inside a museum, exhibition or gallery. Some of them are still open to the public, but others have had to show some originality in order to share their much-missed culture with us.
Here's a selection of exhibitions to see right now in Paris or from the comfort of your own home.
Gainsbourg et caetera ...
A lover of Parisian nights and a provocateur at heart, Gainsbourg left his mark on his era.
"I know my limits. That's why I go beyond them."
- Serge Gainsbourg
An exhibition paying tribute to the 30 years of Serge Gainsbourg's death will open at the Puces de Saint-Ouen on Saturday February 27. It will remain open to the public free of charge until April 18, 2021. In the heart of the Marché Dauphine, the One Toutou gallery has brought together a number of artists to depict their vision of this singer, lyricist, musician and painter in his early days. The works will be exhibited in the adjoining stands, each giving their own perception of the character.
To enliven the exhibition, live performances by artists will be offered every weekend. There will also be artistic testimonials, as well as book signing sessions with authors who have written books on Gainsbourg's life, to share their encounters and moments spent with this illustrious figure.

FRIDA KAHLO BY LUCIENNE BLOCH
Magdalena Frida Carmen Kahlo Calderón, a powerful and influential woman of the 20th century, captured the hearts of people the world over. Both fascinating and touching, her life was marked by illness and frailty following a serious bus accident, which disrupted all her plans. She then decided to dedicate herself to painting, and later became the wife of the mural artist Diego Rivera.
" I am my own muse, the subject I know best. "
- Frida Kahlo
Highly committed to her work, she does not hesitate to paint her suffering and emotions through her self-portraits. The latter figure prominently in her entire oeuvre (at least 55 of the 150 paintings).

GABRIELLE CHANEL - FASHION MANIFESTO
Another strong character we'd like you to discover is Gabrielle Chanel, née Chasnel, also known as Coco Chanel. This woman of unmistakable allure and style made her mark in the world of haute-couture, despite a difficult childhood. After learning the milliner's trade in Paris, she opened numerous boutiques across France, including her first at the famous 21 Rue Cambon. Always demonstrating simplicity and elegance in her designs, Coco was determined to bring modernity, a masculine touch and freedom to the clothes she created. As a result, she decided to branch out into perfume, becoming the first designer to do so.
Gabrielle Chanel's success grew from strength to strength. Her fashion and haute-couture creations soon became the epitome of French class.
"I chose what I wanted to be and I am it."
- Gabrielle Chanel
In accordance with government directives, the Palais Galliera is closed until further notice. However, Paris Musées is offering an online tour of the Gabrielle Chanel Manifeste de Mode exhibition until March 14, 2021.

Hauser & Wirth Menorca - Virtual Reality Exhibition
Founded as a Swiss institution in 1992, Hauser & Wirth has become, almost thirty years later, one of the most fashionable groups of galleries in the art world. Scattered around the globe, the galleries exhibit work by the greatest contemporary artists, including Louise Bourgeois, Paul McCarthy, Rashid Johnson, Mark Bradford and Eva Hesse.
"The greatest asset of a living artist is his very person."
- Iwan Wirth
Its three directors have opted for virtual tours. Their platform lets you live the cultural experience from the comfort of your own home, and fully immerse yourself in the culture. Their virtual reality project had initially been developed to help their artists visualize exhibition spaces and where their works would be installed, but the constraint of limiting their visitors' movements reinforced their objective of offering a virtual artistic experience.
"Art certainly needs to be felt, experienced, touched - but failing that, digital is by far the best substitute option."
- Manuela Wirth
We have selected an exhibition in one of their galleries in Menorca. Comprising eight galleries and gardens in an area of 1,500 square meters, discover the collection, the island and the world of Hauser & Wirth as you stroll through this virtual world.
Let's keep culture alive and keep cultivating ourselves!
